Our story
At Island Lights, we are Susanne and Sam, a creative duo inspired by the natural beauty and tranquility of Phillip Island/Millowl. Since meeting in 2016 and making the island our home in 2019, we’ve drawn from its diverse landscapes and vibrant community to create a business that supplies bespoke candles as gifts—designed to bring light, warmth, and a sense of wellbeing into every space.
Combining our love for handmade artistry with decades of experience in community health care, we launched Island Lights at local markets in 2023, guided by a simple yet profound mission: to bring peace, healing, and beauty into homes, creating nurturing spaces for everyday living.
Continuing this passion for wellbeing, Susanne also offers professional massage therapy through Cowes Massage Therapy, specialising in remedial treatments that ease chronic and acute pain and encourage deep healing. Together, Island Lights and Cowes Massage Therapy offer a holistic approach to creating calm, restorative environments—both within your home and within yourself.

Suze
During her time in New Zealand, Susanne ran an organic shop in a small village in Golden Bay on the South Island. It was there she discovered a line of extraordinary candles crafted in a nearby village. She fell in love with their uniqueness—the artisan process behind their creation, the way they burned so beautifully, and the use of natural, high-quality ingredients. That discovery, made over 20 years ago, ignited a passion that has only grown stronger with time.
Today, Susanne channels her love for handmade artistry into every candle we bring to market, each reflecting the craftsmanship, care, and authenticity that first captivated her spirit. Continuing her deep commitment to wellness, Susanne also offers professional massage therapy at Cowes Massage Therapy, specialising in remedial treatments that support healing, restore balance, and nurture the body—helping to create peace not just in your space, but within yourself.
Sam.
Sam, a long-time resident of Phillip Island/Millowl since 2001, brings a calm and steady influence to our work. After decades in the health sector, he’s transitioning into retirement and embracing a creative side that balances Susanne’s artistic energy.
